Selections from Exile in Guyville & Whip-Smart is a 10-song promotional release that features five songs from Liz’s debut album, Exile in Guyville, and five songs from her follow-up, Whip-Smart.
This set was sent to journalists and radio stations to stir up publicity for Liz’s long-awaited third album, whitechocolatespaceegg.
There’s nothing specifically noteworthy about this set, as each song uses the album version of each song.
The release was packaged in a cardboard sleeve where the back featured an editorial quote from Rolling Stone and announces the release date for the third album.
“(On Exile In Guyville), Phair parodied the virginal voices of the 60’s and 70’s folk mamas…. and wrote devastating accounts of dying relationships… this naively beautiful record bum-rushed the exclusive indie boy-rock scene and laid the groundwork for confessional blockbusters like Alanis Morissette’s.”
