Singer-songwriter, and overall rock goddess, Liz Phair captured the audience at House of Vans Brooklyn last night. Phair gained mainstream attention, with her hit “Why Can’t I?” in 2003, but her musical journey began back in the early 90s making music under the name, Girly-Sound. The project gave her the chance to explore her indie-rock spirit and later lead to her signing to Matador Records in 1992.

In 2003, Phair’s breakout self-titled record climbed the charts with the help of her contagious pop track, “Why Can’t I?” The track, produced by the pop powerhouse production team The Matrix, reached 32 on the Billboard Top 100 and sold over 500,000 copies certifying the song gold.  Phair has since released six full-length albums, her most recent Funstyle in 2010. This fall Phair will be touring across the US headlining her Amps On the Lawn Tour; embracing her roots and early Girly-Sound catalog. In 2018 she re-released her debut album, Exile in Guyville for its 25th anniversary, complete with cassette tapes replicating the appearance of the original demos.
